Helping Autistic Children Understand, Communicate and Become More Independent
Your autistic child may understand more than they can consistently communicate.
They may speak but struggle to explain what happened, answer open-ended questions, follow longer instructions or organize their thoughts. They may frequently say “I don’t know,” rely on scripts or become overwhelmed when they cannot communicate what they need.
Over time, these difficulties can affect learning, relationships, emotional regulation, safety and independence.
At LiveWyre Learning, we look beyond the words your child produces to understand what may be making communication difficult underneath.
The right support begins with understanding your child
We begin by learning about your child’s:
-
Communication and comprehension
-
Processing and learning profile
-
Current strengths and difficulties
-
Existing therapy and educational support
-
Needs at home, at school and in the community
-
From there, we recommend the most appropriate next step. If another professional or type of therapy would better meet your child’s needs, we will guide you towards that option.
Our priority is finding the right support for your child—not placing every family into the same service.

Autistic Communication Starts Before the Words
Communication is not just the final sentence a child says.
Before answering, your child must process the information, create meaning, understand what is being asked, organize their thoughts, retrieve the words and coordinate their response.
For many autistic children, the individual skills may be present, but the connections between them do not always work together efficiently. This can help explain why a child communicates successfully in one situation but struggles in another.
Our approach supports autistic communication right at the brain —strengthening the connection between what your child experiences, pictures, understands and communicates.
